Здрасти,
Голем поздрав от Македонија. Извинете за мојот лош блгарски, всичко разбирам но неможам да се изразам. Се надевам дека не е проблем да пишам на англиски? (ем побрзо ште се разбереме околу стрчната терминологија).
I have а Mazda 6 Sedan 2005 1.8i 16v (Duratec HE L8 1798cc 16v) with Mitsubishi ECU. The engine is in perfect condition, maintained in Mazda official dealer service and has passed around 50000km so far. I bought it last year for a very decent price from the first owner and in perfect condition. I like everything on the car except the performance. I want it to be more agile in mid revs(2500-4500) which is the range I'm driving it 90% of the time. So I did a little research and came to the conclusion that chip-tuning is the easiest and cheapest investment which can increase the power for around 10% in average on a NA engine like mine.
The only reputable tuning house which has a dealer in Macedonia I found to be Piassini Engineering. So I went to the dealer and asked him to remap my ECU with a Piassini Engineering maps. At that time there were no modifications done to the engine, everything was stock and as I said in perfect condition. For my disapointment, there were no performance improvemens at all. The acceleration times in 3-rd gear from 60km/h to 120km/h, 4th gear from 60km/h to 120km/h and 5-th gear from 80km/h to 150km/h were the same before and after the remap. We also tried measuring the time I needed to pass a 5km long part of a certain straight highway. It took the same time to pass the exactly same part of the highway before and after the chip tuning. I passed around 300km after the tuning and then I did the measurements, so the ECU can calibrate the new map parameters according to the fuel(Eurosuper 90+ octane fuel), air humidity and temperature. There is no accurate dyno nearby, otherwise I was going to make the measurements on the dyno.
So I complained and the guys from Piassini set my stock map and gave my money back.
After that I did some cheap and DIY mods:
- K&N 57i CAI kit + alloy insulated air box with cold air duct
- Advanced timing ignition mod (+ 4 degrees).
- +0.5bar increased fuel pressure
- Grounded throttle body (this doesn't boost top HP at all, just makes acceleration smooth)
My Mazda6 acceleration(3 persons in car and full 64L tank):

I don't want my car loud and noisy, so I might try changing the exhaust part by part to find the acceptable loudness limit. I'm also planning to put non-burnable sound insulation above the exhaust, as well as to add some more insulation under the hood and in the trunk.
Finally, I'll go back to the point where I started. And that is ECU remap. But I'll skip Piassini this round. So I need to find a tuning house which has proper ECU maps that will give real performance boost at WOT. I would like more power in mid revs, rather than high.
Since there are no other guys in Macedonia who can do that, I'm looking for a tuning house in neighboring countries. So, do you know a tuning house you are not afraid to can recommend it to me?
BTW, I was reading about the so called плазмин катализатор. Does anybody here experience with NA engine and some hard numbers to share. How much it costs now in Bulgaria? And will it add anything worth to my modified engine (after the modded exhaust and ECU remap)? I have recently (at 45000km) changed the spark plugs with the recommended by Mazda: NGK Iridium ITR6F-13. At the same time I replaced the stock accumulator with one that has 50% more energy capacity and can give 50% more current current, Excide Premium.
Thank you in advance for all of your answers and comments. One more time, sorry for the english.
